Crane Operator Pre-Shift Inspection

Overhead and gantry cranes must be inspected according to the procedure in ANSI/ASME B30.2, Overhead and Gantry Cranes. And O.S.H.A. 1910.179

Safety: Emergency Stop Switch, Runway disconnect

Controller: Check for sticking or binding

Controller: Check for correct directional motions and ID markings

Test Run: Observe operation for smoothness and note any malfunction(s)etc.

Brakes: Observe operation for excessive drift.

Limits: Test all limits without a load

Wire Rope/Chain: Check for damaged, proper seating in grooves and sheaves

Load block: Bent, broken, missing, loose, Capacity markings

Load attachments: Bent, broken, missing, loose, Capacity markings

Lubrication: leaks

Warning Devices/Lights: Warning or signal, broken or burned out

Wheels: Worn, indicated by bumpy riding, scraping noises

Parts (Bolts, covers, wires, etc.)? Loose, missing etc.

General: Note any other potential Safety Hazards Observed.

Monthly Inspection Checklist

Hooks, Wire Rope and Chains must be inspected in accordance with the procedure in ANSI/ASME.
